Benefits of Invisalign and Clarity Aligners

Discreet

Unlike traditional braces, which use stainless steel brackets, bands, and wires, Invisalign and Clarity systems uses clear aligner trays. Therefore, others won’t even notice you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Comfortable

Metal braces can irritate the oral soft tissues. Invisalign and Clarity aligners are smoother, sleeker, and more comfortable. Depending on the severity of the bite, Dr. Giardina will decide which system will be best to correct your bite efficiently.

Removable

Those who wear traditional braces have dietary restrictions. It can also be difficult to properly clean the teeth when wearing metal braces. Because Invisalign and Clarity aligners are removable, patients can still eat their favorite foods and clean their teeth like normal.

How Invisalign® and Clarity® Systems Work

If Dr. Giardina approves you for clear aligner treatment, we will take x-rays and a digital scan of your teeth. These images will then be sent to our lab, where a technician will fabricate a series of custom aligners for you. Each set of trays moves the teeth closer to their desired locations. To achieve this, patients wear each set of trays for about two to three weeks before moving up to the next set in the series.

About Treatment

To be effective, the clear trays must be worn for at least 23 hours every day. This means that you should only remove your trays when brushing, flossing, eating or drinking. You will visit our office every six weeks or so to ensure that your progress is on track. Our team can offer recommendations for keeping your aligner trays clean and bacteria-free during treatment.

Exploring Candidacy

Invisalign and Clarity aligner systems can correct many of the same orthodontic conditions as metal braces, including overbites, underbites, overlapping, and gapped teeth. The majority of patients are eligible for this type of treatment. However, if you have a particularly complex case, Dr. Giardina may recommend alternative options.

Furthermore, to qualify for treatment with clear aligners, patients must be in good oral health. This means you should not have severe tooth decay or gum disease. If any serious dental issues are detected, they must be treated prior to Invisalign treatment.

Lastly, patients must be responsible and committed to the treatment process. If the trays are not worn often enough, it can have a negative impact on results.

How long does treatment take with Invisalign and Clarity?

Invisalign and Clarity aligners take about the same amount of time as traditional braces. Though every case is unique, most patients complete treatment in about 12 to 24 months. During a consultation at our practice, Dr. Giardina will let you know approximately how long your treatment will take.

Keep in mind that once treatment is complete, patients should wear a retainer to prevent the teeth from moving back into their original locations. There are several types available, and Dr. Giardina will work with you to find an effective option.
